An Herbalist’s Notes on the COVID-19 Virus by Northeast School of Botanical Medicine

Note: flu and the recent COVID-19 virus both have the potential to be mild and quick or to become more serious and lead to further complications such as pneumonia. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate medical care, including conventional approaches, is essential.

Meditate

Balance being proactive, alert and resilient with being still, calm and at peace. Check out Insight Timer’s Releasing Coronavirus Anxiety, Tara Brach’s Guided Meditation offering, or  the tracks below, featuring our fave local Yoga Nidra master, Kerry Martinez who made this guided meditation in response to the pandemic.

“This Yoga Nidra is recorded to draw your attention into the body and relax your nervous system.  Yoga Nidra not only releases tension in our body and mind, but with this deep restful activity we can boost immune function! When you start feeling anxious, lie down and turn it on to bring your body and mind back to balance. You can do it daily. During this strange time, we can always come back to balance by bringing our attention inward. Yoga Nidra is a solid inward road toward health.”

Qi Gong

Stay active and healthy with immune boosting movement.

Taken among the beauty in Costa Rica, Mend’s own Jan Bull, Lac. offers this tapping exercise for immunity, to move Qi and break up stagnation and release things you may be holding on to. A great tool to use if engaging in smoking cessation.

This simple exercise can be done:

  • mornings
  • evenings
  • whenever you need to feel invigorated
  • if you are feeling stressed
  • when you are confused and cannot make a decision

This 17 minute qigong practice from Mimi Kuo-Deemer is designed around the Wood element, the element of Spring. Its focus on creating stability and rooting, to support upward growth and rise, feels timely and appropriate.
