Upcoming Price Changes

By |2023-09-21T10:31:20-04:00September 20th, 2023|Categories: Clinic Updates|

Since the start of this year, operating costs have risen significantly. Despite all efforts to stay “lean,” for every $1 earned we’ve had to spend $1.06 to cover operating expenses. The increase in our costs have put us in an unsustainable position. To continue offering care to the community, we will increase our One on One Acupuncture* and Massage session fees by $10-15 effective October 15, 2023. Please see our new rates below: One on One Acupuncture New Patient: $150 Current Patient: $100 *Out-of-pocket fee. We will continue to bill insurance when coverage is available. [...]

Changes to Insurance Billing

By |2023-09-12T12:04:23-04:00September 6th, 2023|Categories: Clinic Updates, Insurance|

In the past, Mend has always written off patient copay and coinsurance amounts related to additional therapies during acupuncture visits such as gua sha, cupping, moxa, etc. Through agreements with private insurers, we were able to make our services as accessible as possible. Unfortunately, private insurance compensation began changing in 2022, leading to a 20% reduction in reimbursements. To recoup this loss, we have been working with insurance negotiators and billing consultants. Despite these efforts, insurers continue to pay below market value, significantly lower than our out-of-pocket rate, despite the substantial administrative burden. Due to this change, we are no [...]

Microneedling: A Refreshing Summer Therapy for Hyperpigmentation

By |2023-06-06T14:41:23-04:00June 6th, 2023|Categories: Microneedling|Tags: , , |

As the sun emerges with all its glory during the summer months, many of us eagerly embrace the warm weather and spend more time outdoors. However, prolonged sun exposure can lead to unwanted hyperpigmentation, causing dark spots and uneven skin tone. Thankfully, microneedling offers a refreshing and effective solution to combat this common summer concern. Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves using a device with tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin's surface. These micro-injuries trigger the skin's natural healing response, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, vital components for [...]

New Mask Policy

By |2023-05-10T10:58:56-04:00May 5th, 2023|Categories: Clinic Updates|Tags: , |

Over the last three years, we've followed Johns Hopkins Medicine's COVID guidelines to safeguard our patients, colleagues, and community, particularly those at higher risk of severe infection. On April 24, JHU revised their masking policy. Accordingly, effective May 15, Mend will also adjust its masking policy. We still take infection control seriously at Mend. We will continue to use sanitation measures such as increased HEPA filtration in our treatment rooms, sanitize treatment tables between each patient, use only disposable supplies, and offer masks for staff and patients. Well-fitted KN95 masks continue to demonstrate protection to [...]

Get to Know Sarah H: Q+A

By |2022-12-07T08:05:37-05:00December 4th, 2022|Categories: Acupuncturists, Clinic Updates|Tags: , , |

This month, we see Sarah Humpal advance as Canton's Site Captain. Sarah has been with Mend in a variety of capacities since 2015. Before choosing to pursue acupuncture professionally, Sarah worked in the non-profit arena and in program, policy, and operations analysis in federal and local government. After working in a variety of settings and communities, Sarah chose acupuncture as she was inspired by the medicine's ability to improve an individual's health and wellbeing, while also acknowledging the external factors that contribute to or limit our wellness. With Sarah's experience and interests, we look forward to her stepping into [...]

Interview with an Acu: Jaqui Sayers

By |2022-11-15T14:04:44-05:00May 25th, 2022|Categories: Acupuncturists|Tags: , |

At Mend, we recognize that our acupuncturists are the backbone of the medicine we deliver. And when a new acupuncturist joins the team, we love getting to know their background, treatment style and passions. Get familiar with Jaqui who joined Mend in March. Why did you become an acupuncturist and what drew you to the profession?  My choice to become an acupuncturist stems from a lengthy career in healthcare where I experienced firsthand the limitations of conventional medicine. In desiring to offer my patients more non-pharmacological options, and through a bit of research, I found Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). [...]

Acupuncture Improves Sleep Affected by Anxiety

By |2022-11-15T14:05:15-05:00March 16th, 2022|Categories: Mood, Research, Sleep, Wellness|Tags: , , , , |

That feeling in the pit of your chest in the middle of the night... We find it interesting when patients come in droves for the same condition or issue. For many, it's anxiety, specifically the kind of anxiety that is affecting sleep. It seems anxiety has been winning and sleep is bearing the burden. Sleep quality can make or break the whole day, not to mention affect the entire system pretty seriously when the issue persists (think heart disease, weight gain, poor decision-making, etc). Acupuncture improves sleep affected by anxiety Research has shown a significant improvement in sleep quality from acupuncture [...]

Interview with an Acu: Aurora Raiten

By |2022-11-15T14:05:16-05:00March 2nd, 2022|Categories: Acupuncturists|Tags: , |

At Mend, we love our acupuncturists and their diverse backgrounds and interests. This is why we sat down with Aurora Raiten, who joined the team in 2020, to learn about why she became an acupuncturist, what she enjoys treating, and other tidbits. What were you doing before becoming an Acupuncturist? What led you to this work? In my very early 20s, I started noticing what at the time felt like bizarre and disjointed symptoms throughout my body - memory loss, severe headaches, endocrine system disruption - and spent several years putting myself through the ringer trying to figure out [...]

Mend ♥ Teens

By |2023-03-01T17:31:29-05:00March 2nd, 2022|Categories: Parenting, Self-Care, Teens|Tags: , , |

Photo by NEOSiAM 2021 from Pexels Imagine how different your adolescent years could have been if you had a safe, warm and non-judgmental space to “ring out the sponge” of a busy brain and full heart. Today’s teenagers arguably are holding more than ever – with constant connectivity via social media and online access, yet isolated in these interrupted COVID years. Acupuncture can be a great non-verbal therapy for kids. We enjoy seeing teens and believe every teen can benefit from being introduced to acupuncture as an option at an early age. Think of acupuncture as a steam valve for stress [...]

Self-Care Defined

By |2022-11-15T14:05:17-05:00December 28th, 2021|Categories: Self-Care|Tags: , |

Photo by Karolina Grabowska from Pexels “Self-care.” I can hardly see to it that I am eating well, that my kids’ teeth are brushed, that I am getting regular exercise or healthcare, much less able to access the kind of self-care lifestyle promoted on social media and on Goop.  I am an acupuncturist and in theory - in the business of ‘self-care’ and I am not sure I know what that even means. What if I don’t have time? What if money is tight? Self-care cannot possibly be a list of should's. It can’t just be something you can buy on Instagram. [...]
