One of the main tenets of our mission is to make acupuncture accessible and low barrier. However, we know there is much work to be done outside of our walls. With this re-opening, we have reconfigured our model so that we can set aside at least 10% of the proceeds for charitable giving. For our pop-up events, we ask the partnering local business to choose the organization or group that feels most meaningful for them. For in-clinic treatments, we will make donations to help expand acupuncture, mental health and wellness services outside of the White L and inside of Baltimore's [...]

Mend for Black Lives: Recognizing Disparities in Healthcare and Our Commitment

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” -Letter from the Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King Jr.  This is what we know: Black infant mortality rates are 2.5x that of their white counterpart Doctors are less likely to prescribe pain medication and appropriate treatment to black patients vs. white patients Data suggests physician bias/assumptions that black patients won’t comply with medication changes Black men with chest pain wait longer for an initial EKG than white [...]

Mend 2.0: The Plane Landed, Now What?

By |2022-11-15T14:06:59-05:00May 14th, 2020|Categories: Acupuncturists, Clinic Updates, coronavirus, Mend 2.0|Tags: , , , |

As you know, we closed the clinic the third week of March. This was one of, if not the hardest moments in our 14 years as an organization. As a group of people who share the desire to be of service to others and believe in the power of this medicine, shutting down was the last thing any of us wanted. But, it was the safe and right thing to do.  The difficult decision to close our doors means we will need to reemerge slowly. Additionally we will need to limit our patient volumes to ensure a safe space. [...]

Saying Goodbye to Lutherville

By |2022-11-15T14:08:17-05:00June 25th, 2019|Categories: Clinic Updates|Tags: |

Two years ago, we took over some sweet little digs on York Road in Lutherville-Timonium, as we wanted to see what it would be like to leave our comfort zone of the 21211 zip code. The Lutherville clinic turned out to be a bit of an experiment for us as we explored offering our medicine to a new community. It allowed us to make small steps, rather than a giant leap, in creating more access and ease. And it helped us to define and determine who we are, what we want to offer and what we value. In the [...]

Hampden Community Clinic Closing

By |2022-11-15T14:08:37-05:00March 1st, 2018|Categories: Clinic Updates|Tags: , |

Starting in March, we will be moving all Hampden Community Shifts to our Remington location.  While we've loved the Hampden clinic for the last 5 years, given it's proximity to Remington (less than a mile a part), merging the two Community Clinics makes sense - they're simply so close and it can get confusing at times where patients should be for a given shift. We feel good about being able to concentrate our Community model in one location where we can offer treatment 7 days a week, in an accessible space (i.e. handicap amenities, street level access, parking garage). We'll [...]

Walk-in Clinic Becomes a By Appointment Clinic

By |2022-11-15T14:08:39-05:00February 27th, 2017|Categories: Clinic Updates, FAQ|Tags: , |

We know, we know, you love the walk-in clinic. We do, too! Please just trust on this. Our fees will stay the same, and we will still be open 7 days a week, we just ask that you schedule your appointment in advance, here’s why: Scheduled appointments happen Good intentions for walk-ins can get overthrown by life (work needing more of you, feeling guilty about not getting home sooner to family, and even a rainy day can make it a bit of an uphill battle to get out). “If I had a penny for every time I hear a patient [...]

17 Reasons Why Remington is Baltimore’s Best Kept Secret

By |2022-11-15T14:08:39-05:00December 16th, 2016|Categories: Acupuncturists, Clinic Updates, Remington|Tags: , |

We've had our first two months here at the new Mend location in Remington Row. We are luxuriating in some of the surprises and amenities around us. It is certain now that Remington is Baltimore's best kept secret. Sarah's love for Remington: a brief history Full disclosure, Remington has always had my heart. My husband and I moved into Remington in 2003. We had our first baby and sleepless nights here, and spent many hours on our front porch with now lifetime friends. We lived on Wyman Park Drive across from Wyman Park (a hidden wooded-park that follows the Stony [...]

Mend is Expanding. Here are the details.

Interview with Mend's Founder Nostalgia hovered over the table as Sarah O'Leary, founder of Mend, took a sip of coffee and described her family. Her grandfather was a doctor and grandmother a nurse. They ran an old-fashioned community health clinic where patients could walk in and get personalized, hands-on care. Continuing the tradition, her father, also a doctor, saw major shifts in how healthcare was delivered. His career evolved from a single practicing doctor, to managed care. He was referring patients to acupuncture as far back as the '80s, when the practice was just emerging in the United States. Although [...]

We’re Really Happy to Announce the Merge of Seeds and Mend

By |2022-11-15T14:08:56-05:00February 2nd, 2016|Categories: Clinic Updates|Tags: |

The Scoop In 2007 Sarah opened Seeds Center for Whole Health which offered private acupuncture among other services. In 2013 she expanded to open a sister location (Mend Community Acupuncture) that would offer more affordable and convenient options for receiving acupuncture. What we learned in the last three years is that both of these locations work really well together. We love the option to get you in same day for the headaches, ankle sprains, PMS and colds at the Walk-in clinic. We love the open-studio model as it allows us to bring the price down and it allows you to [...]
